Long before he was a television producer, Clarabelle the Clown or “Captain Kangaroo” Robert James Keeshan served in the US Marine Corps Reserve. Though there is a story that Keeshan served on Saipan with Lee Marvin, he spent his entire enlistment stateside and never saw combat.

Short Bio: Character actor Robert Webber was the son of a merchant seaman, born in Santa Ana, Calif. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, and in 1946 hitchhiked to New York City to become an actor.

Short Bio: According to a 2005 article Spinks says “I went into the Marines to get away from drugs. My birthday was July 11 — 7-11 — but I don’t know how lucky I was.”

He joined the Marines and won a gold medal in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, a member of perhaps the greatest U.S. boxing team in history (along with his brother, Michael, and Sugar Ray Leonard).

Short Bio: Born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of opera singer and building contractor Vernelle Rohrer. He graduated from Dearborn High School in nearby Dearborn, Michigan, and attended Purdue University, where he studied Engineering, later transferring to Carnegie Mellon University. He took an interest in acting, and joined The Actor’s Studio, where he studied acting. He enlisted into the Marine Corps, and rose to the rank of Sergeant in the Artillery, but saw no interest in a military career, and left as soon as his military obligation was up, to return to acting.

Short Bio: In WWII started, he put his career on hold and enlisted in the US Marines. In 1992, Ford was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal for his service in France during the war aiding those fleeing from the Nazis. He also served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Naval Reserves retiring as a Captain.
