Did Any of Your Children Follow Your Footsteps into Military Service? If so, Which Branch Did They Join, What Career Path Did They Take, and What Were Some of Their Most Notable Achievements?
When I reflect on my family’s journey through military service, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude. Our story is one of commitment, resilience, and a shared belief in serving something greater than ourselves—the United States Air Force (USAF).
My own military chapter began when I enlisted in the Air Force and was assigned to Services—not by choice, but by necessity. Though it wasn’t the career path I envisioned, I embraced the role wholeheartedly during my four-year enlistment. Those years taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of teamwork. They gave me a deep appreciation for every function that keeps our Air Force mission-ready and instilled in me the core values that would guide my life: integrity, service, and excellence.
My husband’s career was both diverse and distinguished. He began as a fireman, safeguarding lives and assets, and later transitioned into Human Resources, where he supported the very people who make the mission possible. His dedication spanned an impressive 23.5 years, culminating in a well-earned retirement. His leadership and commitment left a lasting impact—not only on our family but on countless Airmen whose careers he helped shape.
Inspired by this foundation, our eldest son chose his own path within the Air Force, serving six years in Aircraft Armament. His role was critical—ensuring aircraft were properly armed and mission-ready. This responsibility demanded precision, technical expertise, and unwavering focus. Among his proudest achievements was leading his team in a quick-loading competition, a testament to their skill and efficiency under pressure. Watching him excel in such a demanding environment reaffirmed the values we hold dear: service before self, excellence in all we do, and the courage to rise to every challenge.
And now, the legacy continues.
Today, I’m proud to say that my daughter is continuing that legacy. She’s still in high school, but she has already taken her first steps by joining the Air Force ROTC program. Watching her put on that uniform for the first time brought back memories of my own early days—nervous but determined, ready to learn and lead. Her decision wasn’t something I pushed; it came from her own desire to serve and make a difference. That makes it even more meaningful.

We talk often about what lies ahead—college, commissioning, and the opportunities that come with an Air Force career. I share advice when she asks, but mostly, I listen and encourage her to carve her own path. Whether she chooses to fly, lead, or specialize in a technical field, I know she’ll bring the same commitment and integrity that have always defined our family.
Seeing her follow in my footsteps isn’t just a proud moment—it’s a reminder that the values we live by can inspire the next generation. And for me, that’s the greatest achievement of all.
Her decision fills us with hope and pride, knowing that the spirit of service continues to inspire the next generation in our family.
Three different careers, three unique journeys, yet one common thread—the honor of serving our country. I am proud of my husband’s decades of leadership, my own years of dedicated service, and my son’s remarkable achievements. Together, we represent what it means to be part of something greater than ourselves: the United States Air Force.
