Did Any of Your Children Follow Your Footsteps into Military Service? If so, Which Branch Did They Join, What Career Path Did They Take, and What Were Some of Their Most Notable Achievements?

My Son, CW2 Mark W. Evans, Jr. started his military career in the Navy as an Aircrew Rescue Swimmer, he had been to Afghanistan and Bosnia in the Navy, and was one of the first to respond when the USS Cole was attacked.   After 7 years he decided he wanted to be in the front of the helicopter and switched to the Army, went to Warrant Officer School and Flight School. He chose to fly the Blackhawk. The most notable flight he said was, he got to fly the Washington Redskin Cheerleaders around in Iraq. He had been scheduled to fly Sadam Husain after he was captured but he had accumulated to many hours so he had to hand that flight off.

After he returned to the States he was able to fly in support of the Secret Service, protecting then President George Bush at his Texas ranch, one afternoon he was assigned to check out a radar contact, he found it to be a flock of birds, he said they appeared to have no hostile intent!
Unfortunately, while on an early morning flight carrying a General and his Staff from Ft. Hood to Texarkana, that started out under VFR flight regulations it became IFR flight very quickly, while calling for a IFR flight plan, the last communication, when asked their location was, “Currently Sir” …
They hit the guy wires of an 1800-foot-tall television tower in the fog that had the lights knocked out by a storm the previous week. The notice to airmen went out to all airfields in the area except the Gray Army Airfield where their flight originated from. All seven soldiers perished in the crash.

I have only entered this information to provide the memories I had of my son, who was very committed to the services, had a great sense of humor, and was loved and missed by his family and personnel he served with.
